Dr Joanna Olphert is a Sydney urologist and robotic surgeon with a particular interest in treating urological cancers and reconstructing the urinary tract. Her practice combines comprehensive general urology care with advanced surgical training in Australia and the United Kingdom.
Dr Olphert treats prostate, bladder and kidney cancer, alongside conditions such as kidney stones, urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections and blood in the urine. She also has experience managing complex urinary tract problems, including those arising from injury, previous surgery or radiation treatment.
Advanced Training in Robotic and Reconstructive Surgery
After attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Urology in 2019, Dr Olphert completed three years of additional subspecialty fellowship training at University College Hospital London, a major referral centre for complex urological conditions.
Her training focused on robotic cancer surgery and urinary tract reconstruction, including advanced procedures for prostate and bladder cancer. She also undertook further training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, a specialised operation to remove lymph nodes from deep within the abdomen.
This international experience built on her comprehensive Australian urology training and developed her skills across robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic and open surgery.
Expertise Across Complex and General Urology
Dr Olphert’s reconstructive practice includes surgery for urethral narrowing, ureteric and bladder reconstruction, and the management of urinary leakage following prostate surgery. Her experience includes urethroplasty and artificial urinary sphincter surgery, as well as the treatment of complex urinary tract injuries.
Alongside these subspecialty interests, she provides assessment and management for a broad range of everyday urological concerns, including urinary difficulties and sexual dysfunction. She also performs vasectomy and microsurgical vasectomy reversal.
Dr Olphert works across Sydney’s public and private hospital systems and consults at The Urology Practice in St Leonards, Hurstville and Miranda.
