Dr Joanna Olphert

BA, MBBS, GDAAD, MClinEpi, FRACS (Urology)

Urologist & Robotic Surgeon

Consulting from St Leonard's, Hurstville & Miranda

Dr Joanna Olphert is an experienced urologist and urological surgeon with a special interest in uro-oncology and complex minimally invasive reconstructive surgery. She attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2019 and works across both the private and public sectors of Sydney.

Following the achievement of Fellowship and becoming a Consultant Urologist, Dr Olphert undertook additional sub-speciality training, completing an intensive three-year Fellowship training program at University College Hospital London.

During her tenure in London, she had the privilege of gaining extensive expertise in Genitourinary (urogenital system) Reconstructive Surgery, Robotic Uro-oncology (cancer surgery), and open complex Retroperitoneal surgery. Dr Olphert acquired invaluable skills working at this high-volume referral centre, specialising in robotic prostate and bladder surgery, and reconstructive procedures for both the upper and lower urinary tract stemming from various causative factors, including congenital anomalies, malignancies, surgical interventions, radiation, or traumatic injuries.

Dr Olphert’s repertoire of reconstructive procedures includes perineal urethrostomy, artificial urinary sphincter placement and management, graft and anastomotic urethroplasty, and the management of complex genitourinary trauma.

Additionally, Dr Olphert pursued a dedicated minimally invasive robotic uro-oncology fellowship with formal training at the highest volume prostatectomy centre in the UK. This training focused on advanced techniques for robotic radical prostatectomy and robotic radical cystectomy with intracorporeal diversion.

University College Hospital London (UCLH), renowned as a high-volume tertiary referral hospital for sub-specialty urology, provided an exceptional environment for honing her expertise. She also undertook further training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, which is a globally recognised centre of excellence in this procedure.

Dr Olphert’s extensive sub-specialty experience builds upon a robust and high-volume general urology training program completed in New South Wales between 2013 and 2019. She gained invaluable clinical and professional experience at various prominent hospitals, including John Hunter Hospital, Canberra Hospital, Concord Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Hospital, and St George Hospital. This exposure equipped her with the capability to perform complex open, laparoscopic, and endoscopic urological procedures, fostering a solid foundation in all facets of urology.

Her commitment to delivering exceptional care extends to both technical and non-technical aspects of complex urological care. She offer a diverse array of high-quality procedural approaches and management strategies for general urological conditions, genitourinary functional surgery, and oncological procedures.

With extensive and diverse case experience gained during 6 years of specialty training and three years of sub-specialty fellowship, she provides the latest clinical and surgical approaches to her patients in Sydney.
