Dr James Thompson is an experienced robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic and open urological surgeon, having completed a 6-year College of Surgeons accredited training program in all aspects of general urology in 2016.
He has specialty training in (and passion for) the treatment of prostate and bladder cancer using the latest robotic surgery techniques. He undertook a post-graduate fellowship in robotic and open uro-oncology at University College London Hospital in 2017, then was appointed at UCLH as a consultant robotic and open uro-oncologic surgeon in late 2017.
In 2018, he accepted an offer to return to Sydney as a staff specialist at St George Hospital and to join the team at The Urology Practice striving for excellence in urologic care.

Dr Thompson has co-authored over 30 original research publications in addition to book chapters and invited lectures in the field of urologic cancer. He is a regular reviewer for high-impact journals such as European Urology, Lancet Oncology and the Journal of Urology. He is a co-investigator on several ongoing research projects in the fields of MRI, PSMA, Combidex ferromagnetic MRI, active surveillance, focal therapy (including HIFU & nanoknife), robotic surgery, epigenetics & radiogenomics.
