Cystoscopy & Urodynamic Clinics

The Urology Practice has regular cystoscopy and urodynamic clinics with urgent appointments available for lower urinary tract symptoms and haematuria and for surveillance of bladder cancer.

Obviating the need for a general anaesthetic, these flexible scopes offer substantial benefits and allow for shorter waiting lists.

FLEXIBLE CYSTOSCOPY (Local Anaesthetic)

Preparation;

No special preparation is required to perform this test

Procedure;

This procedure takes about twenty minutes. A local anaesthetic gel is utilised to lubricate the urethra to help make it easier to pass the flexible cystoscope. A fine flexible tube is passed into the urethra into the bladder for vision. A sterile saline solution is used for visualisation during the procedure.

What to Expect Afterwards;

After the procedure you will need to empty your bladder and you may experience some stinging when you first go to the toilet sometimes lasting a few hours after the procedure. To alleviate this we suggest you take a urinary alkalizer such as Ural and plenty of oral fluids. Sometimes there may be some blood seen in your urine.

Results will be known at the time of the test.

URODYNAMIC TEST
